The characters are amusing and real-to-life, charming and horrible and remind me of every kid I know in elementary school. I can see why this is a popular series to teach reading. The horribleness appeals to kids while adults get a chuckle or two out of the story. I recommend for anyone looking for a good series to teach reading.
